Spanish Lifetime Mortgages · Design previews

Four directions for your new website

Same content, same words, same photographs, in four very different personalities. Open each one, live with them for a day, then tell us the number that feels like you.

Who this site is for. People aged 65 and over who live permanently in Spain and own their main home outright or nearly. A lifetime mortgage (hipoteca inversa) turns the value tied up in that home into money for retirement, with no monthly repayments and the right to stay for life.

How we approached the design. Later-life finance is a trust decision, not an impulse one. Every direction below is built around the three things this audience consistently needs from a website: large, legible type; plain, calm language; and photography that shows real homes and real retirement, not stock-photo clichés. The four directions then take that shared foundation to four very different places: warm and conversational, radically plain, quietly elegant, and boldly Spanish.

Terraza

WarmEditorialLight

The thinking. Most financial sites feel like banks. This one feels like a conversation on a shaded terrace. Warm sand tones, a calm serif, and generous white space slow the page down, because the decision this audience is making shouldn't be rushed. Hand-drawn sun and olive motifs and a dotted journey path replace the usual corporate iconography with something human.

Best for a brand that wants to be approachable first and financial second.

Plain Numbers

Radically clearHigh contrastLight

The thinking. This direction is designed around how eyes and confidence actually change after 65. It uses Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface engineered for low vision, at sizes most sites would consider enormous, with maximum contrast and nothing decorative in the way of the message. The hero answers the visitor's first question in one sentence, then shows the numbers. Oversized figures and tick-lists make the guarantees impossible to miss.

Best for a brand whose whole promise is transparency: the design is the proof.

Golden Hour

ElegantEveningDark

The thinking. Retirement in Spain has a particular hour: the hour when the heat leaves and the terrace lights come on. This direction is built from that hour: deep aubergine, candle-warm amber, hairline gold rules and a full-width evening photograph. It reframes equity release from a product you qualify for into a life you've earned. The most aspirational of the four, without ever feeling exclusive.

Best for a brand that wants to feel like a private bank, not a lender.

ContemporarySpanish craftLight

The thinking. The one thing no generic mortgage site has is Spain. This direction takes its whole visual language from Spanish craft: cobalt and terracotta, the geometry of azulejo tiles, a photo wall arranged like a tiled façade, and pattern dividers drawn from Andalusian tilework. It is unmistakably of its place: confident, contemporary, and impossible to mistake for a UK lender.

Best for a brand that wants to be remembered: distinctive without being loud.
